ONE OF FIFTY SITUATIONS
“I dismiss small achievements.”
You did more than you noticed. The evidence just went unrecorded.
What this can look like
You put away a small completed chore and immediately look toward the unfinished ones. The mug is washed, the needed object is back where it belongs or a bag has been taken out of the way. Then the dismissal arrives: "That does not count." It was too small, too late or something you should have done anyway. Before deciding whether the action deserves praise, there is another question available. What standard made an observable effect disappear from your account of the day?
An action can be useful without being impressive. Washing one mug creates one clean mug; it does not create a tidy kitchen. Both statements can be true. The dismissal often happens when the larger endpoint becomes the only unit allowed to count. Until the whole kitchen is clean, every partial change is treated as nothing. That standard may be appropriate for deciding whether the entire job is finished, but it is a poor description of what has actually changed. Completion status and practical effect answer different questions.
