ONE OF FIFTY SITUATIONS
“I measure my worth by how much I get done.”
You are not a production line. Some of what you value cannot be counted.
What this can look like
At the end of an unproductive day, the unfinished task is still visible. Perhaps you meant to prepare a short document and have only a heading. Looking at it, you think, "I have done nothing. I am worth nothing." The second sentence can arrive so quickly that it seems to be a plain description of the first. Yet a document and a person are different subjects. One has an unfinished state; the other is being given a total verdict.
The unfinished document may matter. Someone might be waiting for it, and tomorrow might now be more crowded. Separating your worth from the task does not mean pretending those consequences disappeared. It means keeping the consequence attached to the thing that can actually be described: a document is late, a plan was unrealistic, or a promise needs attention. Those descriptions leave room to think. A sentence about being worthless tells you very little about what happened or what is possible now.
